Victor Apple Farm Cyclocross Race - a Race Report from Jackie
I was the only MIM in attendance. The roster was heavy with Bike Loft East and Park Ave Bike Racers. It was also the last race in the NY State Cyclocross Championship Series, so the stakes we high!
The course was snow covered and muddy, making things worrisome for the race organizer. He shortened to course to only a mere 2 muddy miles. There were more hairpin turns than I've ever seen! There were also 3 long low grade climbs that started out easy enough, until the life sapping 4th, 5th or even 6th lap. The hole shot through the barn and the slog through the snow pile were great fun!
So...I started in middle of the pack, but rather than falling off, I gained on women each lap. I overtook Karla Eisch first, no easy feat as she is a power house. I worked my way past 2 other Cat 3 women and a few Cat 4's. I ended up just off the podium by less than a minute, 4th place, for like the 4th time this year! It was beautifully warm out so I was able to race in shorts. Bad idea after the fact since muddy legs were an issue later on. The biggest success though was being approached by Park Ave riders asking how to be apart of our awesome team!

Hunter-Greene Summer Classic/NYS Road Race Championships
Tannersville, NY
Such a beautiful, sunny day! We were up at the starting line at the Stone Church at 8am to watch my 9-year-old, Corby, start his race (silver medal for NYS!).
I had a little time to go back to town for a cup of coffee and then get on my bike to ride back up to the starting line. There were only about 20 of us in the Cat 4/Masters group and we were starting with the 15-18 year old juniors so I had a feeling it was going to be a fast start (that, and the mile and a half down a 7% grade!). It was supposed to be a neutral start on the downhill but I don't think the pace car got that memo--so fast! It was a downhill chase and then it was all I could do to stay with that peloton on the flats and rollers--this is so not my strong suit. Need a little Conklin Avenue interval training--Maria?;) I managed to hang on for 8 miles but then I was off the back with 32 miles to go--oh, well...beautiful mountains and creeks to keep me entertained. It was a 41 mile course that wound around Hunter Mountain and Windham, through terrific Catskill towns. It was worth the suffer factor just to be out there on such a glorious day. Very grateful to see the 1K to go sign but that also meant I had to climb back up that hill we started on--not so fast going up the hill as coming down! Happy to finish. Happy to go to lunch at an awesome Mexican restaurant in Tannersville. So happy to take a shower when I got home!
Thanks to Anthem Sports and the Drakes for putting on another terrific race.
